The lifting mechanism consists of a motor, transmission, drum, shaft and brake, while the wire rope has a series of interlocking strands that provide strength and flexibility. Wire rope hoists are more complex and require more maintenance than chain hoists, but they can handle greater loads, higher speeds and longer lifts.
No matter what type of hoist is used, it is important to select the right type and size for the application, taking into account the weight, size and type of load that will be handled, as well as the environment in which it will operate.
